Is Now Actually a Good Time to Get Into Real Estate?
Agents are leaving the business in droves right now, and that's exactly why this could be the smartest time to start, if you start the right way.

If you’ve been thinking about getting into real estate, you’ve probably also been talking yourself out of it. The market’s slow, agents are quitting, and you’ve seen the headlines about the worst housing market in decades. So how could now be a good time to start? Here’s what nineteen years in this business has taught me: the moment everybody’s running for the exits is usually the moment worth a second look.
1. A thinning field is an opening, not a warning. Right now, agents are leaving the business faster than they have in years. The industry ballooned during the low-rate boom, and a lot of those folks are gone or on their way out. That sounds like bad news until you flip it around. Fewer agents means less competition for the same buyers and sellers.
The people walking away are mostly the ones who treated this like a side hustle, and when they clear out, there’s more room for someone who’s serious. The agents who start now, when it’s hard, come up tougher and better than the ones who started when it was easy.
2. Starting in a slow market builds skills a hot market never will. When homes sold themselves in a weekend, a lot of agents never learned to actually sell. They took orders. A slower market forces you to learn the real craft: how to price a home right, how to market it, how to negotiate, how to guide a nervous buyer or seller through a decision that scares them.
If you learn the business now, in these conditions, you’ll be dangerous when the market turns. And it will turn. The agents who built real skills in the lean years are the ones who clean up when things pick back up.
3. The thing that decides who makes it isn’t the market. Here’s what most people get wrong. New agents don’t wash out because the market’s bad. They wash out because they were handed a license and left to figure everything else out alone. No system, no mentorship, no one showing them where the next deal actually comes from.
That’s the real reason people quit, and it has almost nothing to do with interest rates. The agents who make it are the ones who plugged into something bigger than themselves from day one, a team, a system, people who’d already solved the problems they were about to hit.
That last point is the whole reason I’m writing this. I’m not going to pretend the market’s easy right now, because it isn’t. But I’d rather bring on someone hungry in a hard market and give them what they actually need to win than watch another good person get a license and disappear because nobody had their back.
That’s what we do here at The Myles Group. Nineteen years in this business, hundreds of families served across the Austin and Killeen area, and a way of doing things that works whether the market’s hot or cold.
So if you’re serious about this, and you want to start with real support instead of a license and a prayer, let’s talk. Call or text me at (254) 535-8792, email me at info@themylesgroup.net, or visit tmgvideoblog.com. I’m Jesse Myles with The Myles Group, and if you’re ready to build something real, I’m here to help.
